Following the disqualification of the flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Philip Appiah Kubi, popularly known as Roman Fada, the party says an announcement will be made soon to reveal which political party the GFP will endorse ahead of the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana, after going through the documents presented to the commission by the late Akua Donkor’s replacement, Philip Appiah Kubi, the commission, chaired by Madam Jean Mensa stated that there were some significant irregularities in the document; hence, his disqualification.
Despite giving the GFP a 10-day window to rectify the anomalies, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa maintained that some of the irregularities remained unacceptable, ultimately leading to Kubi’s disqualification from the presidential race.
Following the EC’s announcement on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, the National Organiser for GFP, Richard Botchway, announced to the media, revealing the party’s position of throwing their support for one of the political parties.
Richard Botchway said, “…We’ll meet. I am going to meet the national executive and we will throw our support to one political party,” he stated.
He added, “All the political parties are aware that nobody is going to contest for the GFP in the upcoming election. So we have all made the decision that in the next election we will make a good structure and get another flagbearer.
“…We are mourning and we are going to rebuild our mother Aunty’s Akua Donkor’s party in the next election. We don’t have a divided front.
“We started with Madam Akua Donkor in 2012, 2016 so what our General Secretary said on air was not true so he shouldn’t be taken seriously.”
